Obituary of George Wilfred Lagore
George Wilfred Lagore, age 86, left this earth with the same grace, dignity and humility that he lived his life. He is safe in the arms of his Heavenly Father and reunited with his baby girl. Dad was born into a farming family in Central Alberta during the great depression, the second of 5 boys. He was a deeply spiritual man who sought to please God his whole life, in whatever he was doing. Dad pursued first teaching, with a short stint as a police officer and then as a pastor. Ultimately, he both taught school and pastored most of his adult life. He mentored many individuals over the years, offering words of wisdom and quiet counsel to the lives he touched. In his free time, he loved to build and work with his hands. Dad treated everyone he met with dignity, kindness and respect. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 64 years, Gwen Lagore; his children Gordie (Kathleen); Gordie’s children Christian (Marnie) and Danielle (Markus); Doug (Shahrzad Akbarzadeh); Doug’s children Carli (Ryan), Chad (Karly), Tyrone (Miranda) and Brooke (Kurt) and their mother Avaline Bruinsma; and Patricia (Jay Litke); and her daughter Eden (Chris). He also leaves his great-grandchildren: Samuel, Annalies, Hannah, Elina, Navy, Willa and Baby Boy on the way. He also leaves his brothers Arthur (Gladys), Bill (Bertha), Dave (Eileen) and Stan (Sharon), Gwen’s siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Peter and Helen Lagore, and his daughter Cheryl Renae. We owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Ryan Rochon and the staff of Unit 83 at the Rockyview General Hospital. Your kindness was deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten. A Memorial Service will be held at Bonavista Baptist Church, (1507 Acadia Drive SE), on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Arms of Jesus Children’s Mission, (www.armsofjesus.org/donate), where funds donated will be used to build a home in Dad’s honor for a family in need in a third world country. Alternatively, say a kind word and buy a sandwich for someone who looks hungry. That’s what Dad would do.
