Obituary of Robert Brookshear
Robert (Bob) Dean Brookshear, age 77 was born in Denton, Texas on February 23, 1942 and died June 22, 2019 at Kindred Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up in Denton and graduated from North Texas State University with a Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration in 1964. In college he joined the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps and became the detachment Commander his senior year. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant the United States Air Force. He later earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of North Dakota. While attending college he met his future wife Marilyn Louise Godwin who was attending Texas Women’s University. They married on July 31, 1965 and raised a family that included their daughter, Judith Lyn and sons, Robert Allen and Charles Russell and a menagerie, that over the years included several dogs, cats, birds a couple of ferrets, a few rabbits, and even some turtles. Bob was initially assigned to the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command in Montana. He was later stationed in Spain, England, and North Dakota. He transitioned from active duty service and moved his family to Beaumont, Texas in 1979 where he worked for Gulf States Utilities retiring as the supervisor of their economic analysis and corporate planning division. After retiring from GSU and the Texas Air National Guard at the rank of Captain, Bob and Marilyn moved to Colorado City where he purchased and operated Mitchell County Abstract from L. B. Elliott until finally retiring for the last time in April 2018. In his youth he became an Eagle Scout and promoted scouting the rest of his life. He was active in his community and served as a member of the Colorado City Council and on several other committees in service to the citizens of Colorado City. He was also a member and Past President of the Colorado City Lions Club. He also enjoyed helping with the fly-in every fourth of July. Bob was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Colorado City where he served as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Liturgist, and on several church committees. He was also a member and Past Master of Mitchell Lodge #563 AF&AM and a Past Patron of Colorado Chapter #58 Order of the Eastern Star. Bob was preceded in his death by his parents, Garland Russell Brookshear and Reba Thompson Brookshear, and his grandson Reagan Louis Havens. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Brookshear, his daughter Judy Havens and her husband Robert L. Havens of Port Neches, Texas; his two sons Robert and Chuck Brookshear of Mesquite, Texas; his brother James Glenn Brookshear and his wife Earlene Brookshear of Las Cruses, New Mexico and their daughter Cheryl Brookshear. Other surviving family include his Mother-in-Law Frances Elliott Godwin and granddaughters, Lindsey Elise Havens and Lorien Nicole Brookshear and his great-granddaughter Harper Elizabeth Crocker as well as numerous other family members who share in our loss. Visitation and funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2019 at: First United Methodist Church 333 Chestnut Street Colorado City, Texas 79512 Visitation: 1pm – 2pm Funeral Services: 2pm Reverend Donald Ward officiating. Burial Services with Masonic Rites will follow at the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker Seale Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, the First United Methodist Church of Colorado City, or Shriners Hospital for Children.
