Obituary of Lisa Crawford Kean
COLUMBIA - Louise “Lisa” Crawford Kean, 60, passed away on Saturday, January 5. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of Jeanne Crawford Kean and the late William Madison Kean. Lisa was a Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley of Columbia where she worked for 37 years. Along with being a Senior Vice President, Lisa was a Senior Portfolio Manager, Financial Planning Specialist and registered Investment advisor. Among her accolades, Lisa was named to Forbes Magazine’s inaugural list of America’s Best-in-State Wealth advisors in March of 2018. She attended Sweet Briar College and the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. Growing up in Columbia, Lisa enjoyed riding horses and spending summers in the mountains at Rockbrook Camp where she made and kept many lifelong friends. Her love of the mountains prompted her to build a mountain house known as “The Cabin” in Asheville which she generously shared with friends and family. Lisa also loved bluegrass music. She prided herself on her “inability” to play the fiddle but used that interest to host musician friends in her house on a regular basis. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her niece and nephews – Josh, Brandon and Sarah and loved them dearly. Lisa wanted to be sure the people, horses and dogs in her life were always happy and cared for. Lisa is survived by her mother, Jeanne Kean; her nephews Josh Kean of Charleston and Brandon Kean of Brooklyn, NY; her niece, Sarah Hall (Daniel) of Greenville and their sons, Gideon and Samuel; and her sister-in-law Mary Dale Morgan (Jaye). She is preceded in death by her father, Bill Kean and brother, Matt Kean. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201. The family will receive friends following the service in Satterlee Hall. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at 11:00 a.m also on Thursday. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morne Michel, Haiti through Trinity Cathedral of Columbia or Heifer International; PO Box 8058; Little Rock, AR 72203. Morne Michel is a village in Haiti Trinity adopted. Heifer International programs work in the area of livestock and agriculture to develop programs that alleviate hunger and poverty. Both of these projects were important to Lisa. Instead of exchanging presents, Lisa would often send a card at Christmas telling you she had donated an animal in your name to one of these projects. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com.
