Calvin Ray Smith

Calvin Ray Smith, age 78, of Newton, NC, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019, at his residence. He was born October 7, 1940, in Lincoln County. Our dad was 1 of 11 children born to Chester Arthur Smith and Lillie Mae Walker Smith. Our father loved things that were simple; he enjoyed tinkering in his mancave, and loved auto racing. He started Foothills Archery, and competed in many tournaments, which he later gave to his children. He was also the founder of the Foothills Archery Club. There are too many things to say in a short space, but he is loved and will be greatly missed. Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Teresa Borum and husband, Ronald, Leisa Smith; son, Danny Smith and Tina Parkhurst; grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, and Derick. A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Catawba Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ray’s name to: NC Wildlife Federation, 1346 St. Julien Street, Charlotte, NC 28205.
