Margie Ganell Brown Whitener

Margie Ganell Brown Whitener, age 93, of Claremont, NC, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Trinity Village in Hickory, NC. Born August 30, 1925 in Catawba County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Walter Brown, Sr. and Jennie Ethel Pope Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Walter Brown, Jr. and wife, Virginia Brown; a sister, Louise Little and husband, Earl William (Pete) Little; infant twin granddaughters, Carla Whitener Brown and Marla Jacquelyn Brown. Margie was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 74 years, Jack Shelton Whitener; daughter, Jill Whitener Brown and husband, Doug; grandchildren, Shawn R. Brown, Mayor of the City of Claremont, and girlfriend, Dr. Jessica Mays; Patrick S. Brown and wife, Brittany; great-grandson, Jackson R. Brown; great-granddaughter, Peyton R. Brown; step-great-grandchildren, Sky, Kendall and Cole Hays; several nieces and nephews; and special long-time friend, Betty Austin. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont with Pastor Gary Haddock and Pastor Frank Waugh officiating. Receiving will follow the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
