Obituary of Steven Michael Kuzik
Steven Michael Kuzik, 58 of Greeley, CO, passed away on April 25, 2019. Steve was born July 27, 1960 in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, Spain, to Michael Paul and Concepcion Igual (Parra) Kuzik. He married Lea Ann Casseday on July 3, 1982 in Greeley at St. Mary Catholic Church. Steve graduated from Greeley West High School in 1978. He earned his Associates Degree at Aims Community College. He graduated from EMT School and the Fire Academy. He also taught in the Fire Science Department at Aims. Steve worked many jobs before landing his dream job as a firefighter. He was a 21-year veteran firefighter in Greeley and was a two-time recipient of the Firefighter of the Year Award. Prior to joining the Greeley Fire Department, he was a Volunteer Firefighter with Western Hills Fire Protection District. He was the lead for the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) program. For part of his career, Steve served as a firefighter, EMT-Intermediate from December of 1999 to April of 2011. He was instrumental in the mask fit testing of firefighters and police officers. He was also an instructor at Northern Colorado Fire Consortium Academy and trained new recruits on various topics. He was a great mentor for younger firefighters. His instruction was instrumental in developing and encouraging numerous firefighters in their careers. Many of them are now employed around Colorado. His current assignment was on Ladder 1 as the tillerman at Station 1, C shift. His prior assignments were with Engine 3, Engine 2, and Engine 4. Steve enjoyed firefighting, riding motorcycles with the guys, and helping anyone fix anything. He also enjoyed fishing with his brother in laws and boating with the kids. Most important to Steve was the time he was able to spend with his family. Steve was a member of IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) and Sergeant at Arms, for Local 888; belonged to the IAFF Motorcycle Group; and was a member of FOOLS (Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society). He is survived by his wife Lea Kuzik; mother Connie Kuzik; son Taylor Kuzik, brother Michael (Jennifer) Kuzik, Jr.; sister, Tara (Tony) Cominsky; grandsons Jayden and Nikolas Kuzik; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Paul Kuzik; son Joshuah Kuzik; and his father and mother in law, Max and Joyce Casseday. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Union Colony Civic Center. Inurnment at Linn Grove Cemetery to follow.
