Douglas Wendell Holmes

Predeceased by parents, Rev. Albert Nicholas and Minetta (Brett), first wife Elsie (Welsh), nephew Thomas Holmes. Douglas passed away at Parkland at the Garden, following a debilitating stroke. Fondly remembered by wife Ruby Felix, Jean Paul, Sonja, brothers Lynn (Elizabeth), and Robert, (Marilyn), step-sister, Linda Murphy, and her children Andrew, Robert and Peter of St. John’s NF, nephews Nicholas and Christopher (Elissa), nieces Nancy, Susan, Kerri and grandchildren Justin, Julian, and Jean-Luc. Douglas had strong roots and memories of his early years in Newfoundland. He was an avid and competitive golfer. He enjoyed special extended family experiences with Sonja, Jean Paul, and his travel buddy Julian. Doug was a leader in the Insurance industry in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He also enjoyed many close friends through his membership at Ashburn and his business and community life. A special thank-you to those who visited and cared for Doug in his last weeks at Parkland. Arrangements; Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 9, from 2-5 pm. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, September 10 at 11:00 am, Rockingham United Church, Flamingo Drive, Halifax. A reception will follow the funeral at Ashburn Golf Club, 3250 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax, NS, at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Metro Food Bank.
