Toula Sperdakes

Toula Sperdakes passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2019. Born in Athens, Greece on January 19th, 1931; she was the daughter of the late Bill and Chrisoula Alexiou. She was predeceased by her loving husband Peter, and her grandson Peter Sperdakes. She is survived by her sons John and Bill(Sue); and her sister Orsalia and her children. She is also survived by her grandchildren Sarah(Chris), Justin, and Angelica(Arthur) as well as her great grandson Malykai. She is also survived by members of her late husband’s family. Toula spent many years working with her husband Peter at the Candy Bowl on Spring Garden Road. She volunteered at the IWK Gift Shop for 35 years and spent many hours knitting hats, scarves and blanket for the children. She interacted with many people at the IWK and never failed to mention the stories of her family. She was an active member of the St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Halifax and volunteered tirelessly day and night at the Greek Festival. Toula loves to spend her summer months at her cottage tending to her garden. Toula was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother(Yaya) and great grandmother. She was a kind soul to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Visitation will take place Wednesday May 22nd, 7-9pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Windsor Street. Funeral service will take place on Thursday May 23rd, 11am at St. George’s Orthodox Church on Purcell’s Cove Road; reception to follow. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church. The family would like to thank Dr. MacSwain, Dr. Ripley, and all the nurses on floor 8.1 at the QEII for all of the care they provided. Mom/Yaya you will live in our hearts forever, we love you!
