Obituary of Betty Larmon Johnson
Betty Larmon Johnson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in her home in Houston, Texas. Betty was born and raised in Lewisburg, Kentucky by her parents Walter and Ruth Larmon. She attended Murray State University where she graduated with the class of 1955. Betty would work as a RN and raise three beautiful children in different parts of the U.S., traveling alongside her husband Vernon Rex Johnson. The two would eventually plant roots in Houston, Texas where they resided together for the rest of their lives. Betty spent her retirement years enjoying her love of tennis, golf, and family. She would travel alongside Vernon visiting as many golf courses as they could, meanwhile making time to visit their grandkids along the way. While both loved to travel, perhaps their most beloved place to be was Walden on Lake Conroe. Betty was the matriarch of her family, leading them fearlessly. She taught love, patience, and kindness. She was a servant of the Lord, and raised her family to be the same. She instilled the values and morals that shape each of her children and grandchildren today. She could light up the room with her smile; she had a quick wit and tenacious attitude. She was loved by all and will be missed greatly by those who were blessed enough to know her. Betty is preceded in death by her late husband and love of her life Vernon Johnson to whom she was married for 60 years. She is survived by her lovely children Carla Armstrong, Karen Hill and son in law Craig Hill, and Stephen Johnson and daughter in law Angie Johnson. Her grandchildren Rachel Armstrong, Sarah Armstrong, Tyler Armstrong, Brian Johnson, Jack Johnson, and Lane Johnson. Her great-grandchildren Isaiah Pastor, Emmy Armstrong, and Silas Pastor. Betty is also survived by her sisters Sarah Snead and Sherolyne Hinton. Preceded in death by her brothers James Larmon and Walter Larmon. Family and friends gathered and celebrated this wonderful woman's life during a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston, Texas. Reverend Roger Parker officiated. Following a brief reception, all were welcomed to attend the committal service at 1:30 p.m. in the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we would greatly appreciate memorial contributions being made in Betty's name to: Parkinson's Foundation 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131 1-800-4PD-INFO (473-4636) Email: parkinson.org Or To: Houston Hospice 1905 Holcombe Blvd. Houston, Texas 77030-4123 Toll Free: 800-630-7894 Email: houstonhospice.org
