Obituary of Dan Lockard, Jr.
Dan Lockard, 87, was born March 10,1932 in Fourmile, Kentucky, passed at his home in Texas on September 23,2019. Dan was a man of God first, a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a Minister of the Gospel. He was a 4 year Navy Veteran having served in the Korean War on the USS Kaskaskia. He was an extremely talented musician who could play anything he picked up but most of all he could play the piano like no other. Dan always had a story to tell or a trick up his sleeve. He loved playing practical jokes on his grandchildren. He enjoyed being with his family and church friends singing, playing, eating and praising God. His smile and laughter would brighten everyone's day. There was never a dull moment if he was around. He has been an inspiration and role model for his children and grandchildren who have learned from him what it means to live a life that is pleasing to God. His love for everyone was limitless and he will be greatly missed but his legacy will continue. He is survived by Norma ( Evans) Lockard, his wife of 68 years. His 5 children; Sharron Gay, Sherry, Lisa, Steve and Dawn. His 2 brothers; Ronnie and Lonnie. 15 grandchildren; Christy, Candi, Jade, April, Nikki, Joshua, Jessica, Steven, Daniel, Benjamin, David, Dustin, Kelsie, Kyle, and Daisy. 27 great grandchildren and 2 great - great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Dan Sr. and Mable (Clark) Lockard, his brothers; Louis, Wayne, and Jack, one sister; Wilma and one great-great granddaughter; Stella. A visitation will be held in Dan's honor on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The Celebration of Life service will commence at 12:00 p.m., after which he will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, where he will be laid to rest with honors. Following the committal ceremony, Dan's family would like to invite his friends and loved ones to a reception held in the Magnolia Room of American Heritage from 1:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., to gather in fellowship and continue sharing stories of the many lives he touched. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the ministry closest to Dad’s heart. Dad believed in and supported this ministry from its conception thirty-four years ago. Our spirits are lifted just to think of the countless lives forever changed through this ministry, and of the many who have passed on, now welcoming and rejoicing with our Dad in Heaven.
