Obituary of Jose Juan "JJ" Castillo, Jr.
Jose Juan “JJ” Castillo was born in Laredo, Texas on March 16,1952, to parents, Jose Juan Sr. and Flora (Gutierrez) Castillo. He passed away in Houston, Texas on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the age of 67. The ultimate family man and Dallas Cowboy fan, JJ, is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Maria Esther (Mojica) Castillo, their children Jose Juan (Joe) Castillo III, wife Janda, Leopoldo (Paul) Castillo, Belinda Castillo Hannah, husband Michael Hannah, Carlos Gabriel (Gabby) Castillo, grandchildren Jacob Michael Castillo, Addison Fern Castillo, his brother Chale Castillo, wife Patty Castillo and numerous other loving family members and dear friends. JJ graduated from Laredo Martin High School in 1971, where he was a star on the football and track field. JJ was highly recruited around the area but chose to build a family. In 1974, he moved his then family of 2, with three other Martin Tiger alumni to Houston, Texas. In 1980, he began a career that lasted for 30 years at Dupont. JJ was a warehouse foreman and paint mixer. In 2001, the plant decided to close, and JJ was offered a transfer to Dallas but chose to stay in Houston and continue the life he built for his family. JJ lived his life with laughter and surrounded himself and his family with friends and was always there to help out. He loved the days of playing softball with Houston Buddies. The Houston Buddies team afforded him many great friends who taught him to continue to be a great man and teach his family what life is all about; have a great work ethic, love your family, enjoy your time, and smile a lot. Family and friends gathered and celebrated JJ’s life during a memorial service at 10:00 am, on Saturday, June 1st, at Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston, Texas. In honor of JJ being an ultimate fan of the Dallas Cowboy's all were invited to wear the Cowboys color blue for the Memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Texas Children’s hospital.
