William Murphy

William Murphy May 9, 1934 – February 3, 2019 It is with a sad heart that I announce the passing of William (Bill) Murphy at Lake of the Woods District Hospital on February 3, 2019 with his wife by his side. Bill was born and grew up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He joined the Air Force at a young age and moved west. He never returned to the East Coast except to visit. On such a journey in the late 50’s he got side tracked to this area and never left. He worked for various tourist operations, among them Plummers Great Bear Lake Resort where he was employed for a good number of years. He married Billie Jean Haas in 1968 and they left Sioux Narrows to work for Handbergs’ Campbells Cabins on Lac la Croix. They returned to Sioux Narrows in 1972 and built their home on Regina Bay. After working some years for Gills Trading Post, he acquired the Maintenance Person position with the Township of Sioux Narrows from which he retired in 1994. Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting and after retiring took up his old love of golf. He would travel to various local golf courses with is golf buddies that he met at Beauty Bay Golf Course. He could relate many funny and good memories of those days. Bill was predeceased by both parents, a younger brother and numerous aunts and uncles. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, his youngest brothers Vincent (Bud) Murphy and family of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place and as per Bills wishes, there will be no formal service. He prefers to be remembered (kindly, he hopes) at your next coffee gathering or other social event.
