Obituary of Betty Lou Lewis
Betty Lou Lewis of Lakeway, Texas went to be with Jesus on October 3, 2019 after a courageous battle with myelodysplasia (a blood cancer). Betty was born in Seattle, Washington on April 26, 1938 to Harold and Dorothy Sanders. When she was 3 years old her father was killed in an auto accident and her mother then married Fred Pepin who adopted and raised Betty as his own. Betty graduated from Franklin High School in the Rainier Valley area of Seattle where she developed close and lasting friendships with many that love her to this day. It was in 1958 that she met her husband, Jack who had moved from San Diego, California to Seattle to attend Law School at the University of Washington. At that time Betty was working at her father’s floor covering store in Rainer Valley. Betty and Jack knew immediately that they were meant for each other and married within 3 months. They celebrated their 61 anniversary this past August. Jack was hired by Farmers Insurance group Management Company and Betty and Jack began a 30 year adventure as “Corporate Gypsies,” moving every 3 years with the longest stay in Austin before heading to Simi Valley, California. After Jack’s retirement, Betty wanted to come back to the Austin area which she loved dearly and settled in Lakeway for the last 20 years. During the moves Betty raised two beautiful children, Lynda and Larry and enjoyed doing many fun activities with them and finding ways to be busy (Betty loved to stay busy)! She worked as a school secretary, McDonalds Store Activity Rep, Western Oaks Homeowners Assoc President, Orthopedic Office secretary and manager of a dermatologist office. During all this time, Betty’s smiling personality endeared her to many. Betty’s sport accomplishments were also many! She loved skiing, girls softball coach, tennis, sailing and golf. In addition, she very much enjoyed her Monday Morning Card Ladies. Mostly she enjoyed getting together with her “Lady Friends.” Betty was an amazing and loving mother and very proud of her family! Betty is survived by her husband, Jack, her two children, Lynda Alston and Larry Lewis, four grandchildren, Van Alston, Alex Alston, Emily Alston and Alyssa Lewis. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Dorothy Pepin, Father, Harold Sanders and Stepfather, Fred Pepin and brother, Robert Sanders. The family would like to thank all the nurses at the ICARE Center at St. David’s South Austin Hospital for their compassionate care of Betty and the friendships they made with the family. Betty’s remains will be placed in the Memorial Garden at The Lakeway Church. If you drive by you are sure to feel her smile and love over you.
