Jeffrey Allen DeKett

Jeffrey Allen DeKett, 40, of Lansing passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019. A Celebration of Life Service for Jeff will be held at 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019, at Mason First Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Gerhard Weigelt officiating. An open house will follow the service from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. If you are interested in making a memorial contribution, an education trust is being established to benefit Jeff’s daughters. Jeff was born on September 8, 1978, in Lansing, the son of Marvin and Sheryl (Bristol) DeKett. He was a graduate in the Class of 1997 from Mason High School. Jeff was certified as an expert mushroom identifier and loved to share his knowledge and love of mycology with others. He was a wonderful stay at home dad to his daughter, Isabella (Izzy). His artistic abilities included drawing and playing the guitar. Although he loved all music, listening to new, less mainstreamed music was one of his passions. His love for music was shared with his daughters and their love for it is equally strong. He was kind, compassionate, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Jeff had a sense about him which caused others to feel immediately at ease when in his presence. He is missed very much. Jeff is survived by his wife Jimi DeKett of Lansing; his daughters Morgan DeKett of Chesaning and Isabella DeKett of Lansing; grandparents Barry and Sharon Bristol of Lansing; parents Marvin and Sheryl DeKett of Eaton Rapids; sister Jeni (Brent) Conlin of DeWitt; nephew Noah Conlin; niece Maddi Conlin; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jeff was preceded in death by his aunt Karon (DeKett) Fellows, grandmother Marjorie (Fulton) Bristol, and grandparents Glen DeKett and Marian (Rappleyea) Zischke.
