IN THE CARE OF
Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home
Georg passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2018 in Vancouver, BC, after a brief illness. He leaves behind his loving wife, Janet (nee Olsen), and beloved daughters Katie (Mark), Clarissa (Billy) and Marta (Liam); grandchildren Althea, Gavin, Luke, Riley and Alden; sister Gisela; nieces and nephews Hans (Doris), Georg (Dani), Stefanie (Michael), Angelika (David); mother-in-law Jytte; sisters and brothers-in-law Jack (Lykke), Anne (Brian), Lise (Scott) and nieces and nephews Birgitte (Svend), Sara (Peter), Martin (Ida), Tomas (Ina), Anna, Charlotte and Hannah. He will be fondly remembered by his extended family in Canada, USA, Denmark and Germany. Georg was predeceased by his mother Maria Barrenbrugge.
Georg was born in Ruhpolding, Germany, close to his cherished Alps. As a young man, he was educated in business and started his career in the field of electronics. He became an electrician and with an entrepreneurial spirit, he left Germany to travel the world with his first wife Baerbel and settled in Langley, BC, where Katie was born. After meeting Janet and her daughter Clarissa, they all moved to Fort Langley where they had Marta. Georg delved into many trades and interests including farming and owning a restaurant with Janet. He worked for a short while with his in-laws in their printing roller business before embarking on the import of eco-friendly building products. Georg found his niche as a pioneer in the organic coffee and tea trade in BC. He enjoyed a good conversation and kept in touch with many of the people he had met throughout his life. He was a loyal friend.
Georg’s passions remained spending time outdoors, cycling, skiing, travelling, working on his projects and property in Mission. He treasured spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be held at the Cedar Valley Mennonite Church in Mission, BC December 19th at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to CPAWS (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society) or a charity of your choice.
