Obituary of Terry Boersma
BOERSMA, Terry November 2, 1933 - May 28, 2018 After a long and courageous battle with cancer it is with great heartache and sadness we have to announce the passing away of our beloved Terry Boersma, who left us early morning of May 28, 2018 at Mission Memorial Hospital at age 84. Dad was born in Sneek, Holland, the youngest of 4 boys, predeceased by his older brothers Rinze, John and Joe Boersma. He was 17 when he left the Netherlands and came to BC to be with his brother Joe. He leaves behind the love of his life and very devoted wife of 62 years, Betty Lue Boersma (Edwards), his daughter Kimberley ("the kid") and grandson Caleb. Along with many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was admired for his strong will, positive attitude, big heart and giving soul. He was always willing to give someone a chance or a helping hand and his door was always open. He always enjoyed the chance to entertain company; whether it was on the ocean or at home, everyone was welcome. He had a serious love for fishing, and riding the big open sea. On holidays we would take our boat up to Pender Harbour, where dad would cast out his line only to share a good fight with a fish. He'd rarely come back to shore empty handed, usually with a spring or cod but likely he had both. He also had a passion for gardening. Every year he would have his veggies to share and be proud of. Dad dedicated 35 years of service to BC Gas and made a lot of friendships through the years working there. He was a very loving husband, dad and papa, as well as a caring brother, uncle and friend. We want to thank all the doctors and nurses from Mission and Abbotsford who were there to help us along the way. Due to Dad's request, there will not be a service held at this time, but sometime this summer, we may have an open house for those who knew him well; we will let you know. We would greatly appreciate any donations to please be made to the Cancer Society or Children's Hospital. Thank you for all the love and support. I love you to the moon, stars and back again. You are forever my hero, Dad.
