Obituary of Master Sergeant Thomas "Dale" Dunn
Master Sergeant Thomas Dale Dunn, age 58, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at UAB hospital surrounded by his devoted family. MSgt. Dunn is survived by his wife, Michele Tedder Dunn; two daughters, Amanda Dunn Eubanks and Taylor Dunn Duncan (Jacob). He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Adelaide Eubanks and Josiah Duncan, as well as parents, Clifford and Jadell Dunn; brother Barry Dunn (Lydia), and countless other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. MSgt. Dunn was a member of the United States Air Force and a veteran of Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. He received numerous awards and decorations; including, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Dale grew up in Pinson, Alabama, where he attended Pinson Valley High School and wrestled for “The Indians". Upon graduation he joined the Alabama Air National Guard as a Security Specialist. After basic training he worked for Suburban Ambulance as an EMT, and was a volunteer fire fighter for Center Point. He became a corrections officer with the Alabama State Department of Corrections at the St. Clair Correctional Facility in 1983; he survived the prison riot of 1985. In 1986 he was transferred to the state military department where he served with the Air Force Security Forces as a State Security Guard. He retired from the State of Alabama in 2011, and transferred to the Active Guard & Reserve program. Services will be held Monday, August 26, 2019 at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo, AL located at 3715 AL-25, Montevallo, AL 35115. The family will receive guests from 11:30am-1:30pm and the celebration of life will begin at 1:30pm. There will be a committal service at 2:45pm at Alabama National Cemetery with full military honors. The Honor Guard from Maxwell Air Force Base will conduct the graveside service with members of the 117th Security Forces squadron augmenting the services. CMSgt Teddy Popee, MSgt Kevin Myers, MSgt David Bensinger, MSgt Justin Hollingsworth, MSgt Darren Spadoni, & TSgt Kevin Shinholster will act as pallbearers. MSgt Cleveland Coleman, SSgt Kyle Stevens, SSgt Anthony DiSalvo, SSgt Chaka Nettles, SSgt Victor Nguyen, SSgt Cody Kciuk, SSgt Austin Lochamy, SRA Brandon Miller, SRA Andrew Pitts, SRA Spencer Hollon, A1C Bradley Scott, and A1C Logan Schell will act as Honor Detail. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dale’s memory to UAB Medicine: Ashita Tolwani, M.D. Innovation Fund or The American Diabetes Association.
