Obituary of Judge Sue Mcknight Evans
Judge Sue McKnight Evans, born May 11, 1933 in Old Hickory, TN died surrounded by her family at the Rutherford Assisted Living in Murfreesboro, TN on October 8, 2018. Judge Evans was the daughter of the late Luther Wilson McKnight and Willie Bernice Bradley McKnight. Judge Evans is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Joseph Evans, and her sons Donald Joseph Evans, Jr. and James Charles Dennis Evans. She is survived by her daughter Donna (Paul) Long of Murfreesboro and son John Daniel Evans of Nashville. Judge Evans is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Judge Evans began her career teaching at Holy Rosary Academy in Donelson. While teaching, Judge Evans graduated with a BS from University of Tennessee – Nashville, and went on to obtain her law degree from the Nashville School of Law. Upon passing the bar exam, she entered into private practice in Nashville, and in 1996 was elected General Sessions Judge in Division IX of Davidson County. She was unopposed for reelection in 1998 and again in 2006, completing her service on the bench in 2014 at the end of her term. Judge Evans served as presiding judge in Davidson County General Session Court in 1996 and 1997. Judge Evans was appointed to the Court of the Judiciary where she served two terms from 1999 until 2007. In 2010 she was recognized by the National Association of Women Judges. Judge Evans was most recently a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. The family would like to thank her fellow residents and staff at the Rutherford Assisted Living for their love and attention over the past year and for the care provided to her by the staff of Willowbrook Home Health and Hospice in Shelbyville, TN. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service at Noon on Thursday October 11, 2018 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 188 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37211. Mass of the Resurrection will be by Rev. Joseph Patrick Breen Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Father Ryan High School Library.
