Obituary of Etta Mae Byrd
Mrs. Etta Mae (Jackson) Byrd was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on June 27, 1935. She departed this life and entered into her eternal rest on June 7, 2019. After completion of her education in the Vicksburg Public School System, Etta met and married, Tommie Byrd, Sr. The couple moved from Mississippi to Detroit Michigan in order to make a better life for themselves and their children. To this union were born eight children. Mrs. Byrd spent the majority of her life as a devoted wife to her husband and a homemaker to her children. She was a wonderful wife and mother an exceptional grandmother and great-grandmother. At a very early age, Mrs. Byrd gave her heart and life to the Lord Jesus Christ. She believed wholehearted in training up her children in the ways of God, exposing them consistently to the Word of God and to effectual and fervent prayers both at church and at home. Mrs. Byrd was truly a living witness for the Lord and her light truly shined bright wherever she went. Her final two years of life she spent as committed partner of the Liberty Christian Center where she was honored to be numbered among “The Church Mothers”. Her example of both what it is to be a lady and a believer to the younger ladies within the fellowship has left an indelible mark and will be truly missed. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband of 63 yrs, Tommie Byrd Sr; her sons Richard Byrd, Carlton Byrd, and Tommie Byrd, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters Constance Lattimore of Killeen, Texas; Stephanie Byrd of Austin, Texas, Karen (Byrd) Reynolds (Burtron) of Pflugerville, Texas, Shirley Ann Byrd of Killeen, Texas and one son Matthew Amos Byrd of Killeen, Texas; one sister, Grace Hodges of California; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; one nephew and a host of extended family and friends.
