Obituary of Merline Bramwell Knight
Merline Rose Knight was born in Alston, Clarendon Jamaica to the late James and Minette Bramwell. Merle as she was fondly called, attended the Alston primary school and later Glanvilla High School. After graduation , she worked as a Post Mistress at the government post office in Jamaica, until 1969 when she migrated to the United States. While living in New York, Merle was employed by Citibank when she work in international banking, and also earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Iona College in New Rochelle. Merle met and married Carlton Knight in 1974, and had one daughter in 1980 named Carla. Merle took and early retirement from Citibank after twenty-eight years of service. Merle made herself busy by attending to some of her hobbies and was known for her 4th of July BBQ s. Her specialty was fish cakes which everyone loves. She liked flowers and was a dedicated gardener. In some of her spare time she was involved in sewing which was another of her hobbies. Merline was a member of the Eastchester Presbyterian Church, and was very involved in the Alpha group which was one of the ministries of the church. After being affected by dementia, she was not able to attend church and be as active as she once was. At the progression of her illness, she went to live with her daughter in Georgia. Earlier this year her illness took a sharp decline and finally she parted this life on August 3, 2019. Merline is preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy, and Etta and brother Gladstone. She leaves to mourn husband Carlton, daughter Carla, grandchildren Kayla, Braylen, Tyler and Alex. Her sister Lena, niece Marcia, nephews Trevor, Ray and Lloyd, and a host of other relatives and friends. Merline, you are gone but will forever be held in our hearts as we remember the life and gifts you gave to us and you shared with us. May your soul be at rest in peace, as we look forward to reuniting with you during the resurrection.
