Dr. Frank J. Schaberg

Sparta- Frank J. Schaberg, MD, died peacefully at his Lake Mohawk- Sparta, NJ home on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Brown University and the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, Frank interned at Holy Name Hospital, where he met a nurse, Helen Baenziger, who he felt was the most beautiful woman he had ever met. Helen would become his partner in medicine and together they raised six children. A captain in the Army Medical Corps stationed in Winchester, England, Dr. Schaberg participated in many evacuation rescue missions from France. Following World War II, Frank continued his 50 year private practice of family medicine offering compassionate care to his many patients regardless of their ability to pay, gaining their respect and devotion. A person of insatiable curiosity, Dr. Schaberg refused to give up on his toughest medical cases pursuing every avenue for the accurate diagnosis. His life revolved selflessly around his patients and his family. He took great joy in sharing his love of knowledge, history, literature and poetry with his multi-generational family. Frank was loved dearly and will be missed by all. He is predeceased by his beloved spouse Helen, and Grandson, Frank. Surviving Dr. Schaberg are six children: Catherine, Frank, Helen, Nancy, John and Paul, Eleven Grandchildren; Catherine, Louis, Joan, Adrienne, Madeleine, Marianne, Christopher, Peter, Paula, Kurt ,and Emma and eleven Great grandchildren; Maximilian, Alexandra, Julian, Tyler, Victoria, Allison, Danielle, Ashleigh, Hannah, Frank, Dinah. Friends and family are invited to a 10 am Mass of the Resurrection Thursday, at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha RC Church, Sparta, NJ followed by entombment in Newton Cemetery, Newton, NJ.
