Obituary of Eve Gidumal
Born in New York City on November 17, 1933. Her parents were Albert Ormsby and Catherine Molloy Ormsby who were from England. Her elder brother was Albert Ormsby, Jr. (predeceased) She graduated from St. Joseph’s School in Yorkville section of New York. She had a career as a fashion model in New York. On March 19, 1955, Eve married Moti L. Gidumal. Following their marriage, they moved to Hong Kong. Their sons, Gordon and Steven were born there. Later they returned to New York where their daughter, Rana was born. They moved to Matawan, NJ on December 7, 1963. While raising her family, Eve pursued her interests in nature and volunteered at the Allaire State Park as a nature hike guide and delighted in teaching children about forest animals including a skunk named Penny who lost her scent. A self-taught artist, Eve designed and created many decorative crafts and dolls which were sold at neighborhood bazaars. Later, she had a home business called Dolls by Eve. Eve and her husband, Moti enjoyed reading and encouraged their children by taking them to weekly trips to the Matawan Library. Eve’s favorite authors were from the Golden Age of British Detective Series including Margery Allingham, Dorothy Sayers, and Agatha Christie. Both Moti and Eve enjoyed attending the theatre and concerts and enjoyed going to what was then Garden State Arts Center and the local theatre in Red Bank. Following the death of her husband, Moti on June 25, 1980, Eve continued living in Matawan working in retail. She survived a bout of breast cancer thanks to the support of her children and particularly her daughter in law, Robbin Gidumal (Gordon’s wife) who came to stay with her as she recuperated. When her grandson, Andrew (Rana’s son) was born in 1994, Eve moved to Philadelphia. She lived there until 2006 when she moved back to New Jersey and lived in Toms River. She is survived by her children and their families, Gordon and Robbin Gidumal and their daughters Chelsea Meyer (and great-granddaughter, Kalyssa), Rhiannon and Jake Hatton (and great-grandchildren, Grady and Inara); Steven Gidumal (and his daughter Avery); and Rana and Tom McNamara (and their son Andrew).
