Dennis Fletcher Jones Sr.

Dennis Fletcher Jones, age 93, husband, father, mentor, attorney, friend brother, judge, son, prosecutor, raconteur and a damn good guy, died on Sunday night, May 13th, 2018 at Emory University Hospital – Clifton Road, Decatur, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Middlebrooks Jones, precious daughter, Janet Gwendolyn Jones, parents Carl Candler and Ludie Dennis Jones and brother Carl Candler Jones, Jr. He is survived by his sister Virginia Jones Hanbury, son, Dennis F. Jones, Jr., many friends and relatives. Dennis was born on April 18, 1925 in Eatonton, Georgia. He went to Kirkwood, Winona and Glenwood elementary schools in Decatur, Decatur Boys High and Emory University. He was extremely well read, funny, stern, good-natured and often recited poetry in response to some question or statement. He loved cigars, butter pecan ice cream and watching the birds, trees and flowers while wearing his ragged old brown coat he bought at Sears for $5 back in the day. In his youth he enjoyed his terrier dog Duke, studied history, ran track and loved building and reading about model airplanes among many other interests. His funeral is scheduled for this Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. A visitation will begin at 10:00am with a remembrance at 11:00am followed by a graveside committal.
