Ione Phyllis Chaban

Always Loved, Never Forgotten. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ione Phyllis Chaban (nee Edwards) on January 30, 2019 peacefully at home in Winnipeg at the age of 83 years. Ione was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on December 13, 1935. She is predeceased by her loving parents Reta and Cecil Edwards; her beloved husband Michael Chaban; and her dear cousin Shirley Dwyer. Left to mourn her passing are her wonderful brother Gerald Edwards and his lovely wife Margaret; her loving daughter Michelle Isaryk (nee Chaban); her two beautiful granddaughters Nicole (Cory) Marten and Courtney Isaryk (Kyle Sleva); niece Cheryl Cooke (need Edwards), her husband Jim, and their daughters Jennifer, Jackie, and Kim; two wonderful nephews Gary (Cheryl) Edwards, and their children Angela and her family, and Stephen Edwards; Terry (Debbie) Edwards, and their children Theresa Edwards and Shawn Edwards and his family; as well as Ken (Barbra-Ann) Dwyer, Donald (Maureen) Dwyer, Pat (Cam) Dwyer, and their families. Throughout her life, Ione was defined by all who met her as having a radiant warmth about her, which created the uncanny ability for her to make friends wherever she went. As a young woman she completed Business College at Robertson, and went on to have many fulfilling and diverse positions as a secretary, before becoming a stay-at-home mom and wife to her beloved daughter Michelle and her husband Michael. In her personal time she was an avid lover of books (often reading late in the night), enjoyed lively games of cards, and Scrabble. She always opened her home to family and friends. Later in life she became well known by her nickname “Ama.” The nickname was started by her two lovely granddaughters, and it soon caught on with other children in the neighbourhood and family members. Ione will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and anyone who had a chance to know her. She will always be loved, never forgotten, and will live on in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ione’s memory may be made to The Lung Association.
