Forever Remembered
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leona Kozusko on June 26, 2019 at the age of 92.
She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Anna Shastky, her brother Alex (in infancy), her sister Grace, and her loving husband John. She is survived by her sister Frances, her two sons Douglas (Deborah) and Norman (Corinne), her grandchildren Kristin (Kevin), Jarrett (Sarah), Ariane, and Christopher, and her great-grandchildren Justin, Katie, Jack, Owen, and Mark.
Leona was born in Dryden, Ontario where she lived until age 9. Her family then moved to a farm at St. Phillips, Saskatchewan. After her father’s death the next year, the family moved into the nearby town of Kamsack where they stayed for 5 years. In 1941, they moved to Winnipeg. There she met John and they were married in 1946. They eventually bought a house in Elmwood, and then later moved to East Kildonan where they raised their family. Several years after her husband’s death in 1990, Leona sold the house and lived in apartments and assisted living in North-East Winnipeg, ending up at Concordia Place PCH.
Leona was a very creative and independent person, for whom family was very important. She loved family gatherings, and took special interest and pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her determination and sometimes unique take on events.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff on the 4th floor of Concordia Place for the great care and compassion they gave our mother for the last 5 years.
Cremation has already taken place. There will be a private family interment ceremony at Green Acres later this summer.
