Obituary of Jere Lynn Scott
Jere Lynn Scott, age 67, of Elon, passed away on June 1, 2021, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lynchburg on February 2, 1954, daughter of the late Charles S. Scott, Sr. “Bill” and Joseline Daniel Scott “Jo”. She grew up in Brookneal, was a member of Falling River Baptist Church and a retired nurse of Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority. Jere is survived by her six sons: Charles J. Gehman “Chuck” – Lynchburg, Micah J. Gehman (Lisa) – Yelm, Washington, Byron C. Gehman (Shelley) – Round Rock, Texas, Vincent S. Keller (Jenny) – Gladys, Dustin T. Keller (Jessie) – Brookneal, and N. Cory Keller – Fort Myers, Florida. Also, a sister, JoAnn Winn (William) – Madison Heights, a brother, David G. Scott (Mary Helen) – Toano, 17 grandchildren, two nephews, one niece, special friends both near and far, and her fur babies, Willie, Reba and Gaby. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles S. Scott, Jr. and Patricia S. Johnson. Jere influenced so many people in her life. Her family, friends and co-workers went to her with their problems. She had a knack for listening and giving advice. She found her true calling in nursing, and was respected by everyone she encountered. She also had a zest for life and loved to be active, whether hiking, gardening or exercising. She was a devoted mother to her six sons, cool grandmother, beloved relative, and loyal friend to many. Jere was one-of-a-kind, and a very special person. A Celebration of Jere’s Life service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Lawhorne officiating. Per Jere’s request, please dress casual. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to your favorite charity.
