Obituary of Raymond Anthony Grant
Raymond Anthony Grant was born on February 17, 1951, in Colon, Republic of Panama to the late Nattie and Marietta Grant. Raymond also known as “Grant” was educated in the Republic of Panamanian school system where he attended and graduated from the prestigious Abel Bravo School. After he graduated, he met and later married Delretta Grant, and from this union, a daughter was born, Sheila Maria Grant. Raymond and Delretta moved to the United States of America where Raymond enlisted in the United States Army traveling to many states and serving 25 years. While in the Army, they traveled to many places in the United States and other countries. He was stationed at Clayton Army Base for a period, before returning to the United States. After twenty-five years of service in the Army, he retired and began a new career in the Federal Government, working for Department of Justice’s Prison Bureau until 2017. Ray enjoyed writing and sending emails to tell his stories as he saw them, to his family and friends. He even took a class “Art of Persuasion” at the community college and was so excited about taking this class, he made writing his forte. He was predeceased by his wife, after which he changed and was never the same vibrant, inquisitive person. His health began to fail, and he later found himself with kidney failure and having to do dialysis. Between 2018-2021 Raymond relocated to New York to live with his daughter Sheila, and later moved to Atlanta, GA where his health worsened. He passed away on September 23, 2021, from heart complications. His closest and dearest friend, for 25+ years, Ernesto Debeauville, has been through it all with him. He was a brother, confidant, spiritual, best friend, and everything that he could be, and his friendship was beyond close. Raymond was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughters Sheila Maria Grant, Dalia Leonora Grant – (Latty), brother Carlos Stewart, grandson, Austin Dodson, granddaughters Kimberly and Keithy Cumberbatch and a host of family and friends. Many will miss the emails about his favorite meals. pictures and jokes. Yes, he will surely be missed.
