Obituary of Marilyn Jane (Kier) Schwartzkopf
Marilyn Jane Kier Schwartzkopf departed this world to her heavenly home on December 29, 2020 at 2:00 am. She always was a night owl. Born in Cincinnati to Maynard and Catherine Stucker Kier on July 4, 1934, she was a “firecracker” who loved the fact that the whole country celebrated her birthday. She graduated from Hughes High School in Cincinnati and Purdue University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. It was at Purdue that she met her beloved husband Roy to whom she was married for over 50 years until his passing in 2014. After school, she and Roy lived in Germany where he was stationed in the army. Returning to the US afterwards, they settled in Roy’s hometown of Columbus where they raised their children Susan and Bob. She was a good and faithful servant of God and an active member of St Peter’s Lutheran Church. Marilyn was a dietician and nutritionist and used these skills to co-run a catering company as a young woman. Throughout her life, she was an exceptional cook and used her talent to make life fun, delicious and beautiful for her family and friends. Throughout her years in Columbus, she was always involved in the community. This included being president of Donner Swim Club, co-chairing the St Peter’s Food Booth at the Fair, and co-chairing the UnCommon Cause. She was also one of the organizers of the Boars Head Festival at St Peter’s where she designed and made the costumes for the annual Christmas celebration. Marilyn had a zest and love for life, always relishing new things and new adventures. She did not hesitate jumping into things whether it was learning transcendental meditation, selling Shaklee products, arranging special vacations for the family, or owning a couple of horses and learning how to care for them from books at the library. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her parents, and her brother Robert Kier. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Susan Schwartzkopf of Lake Worth, Florida, her son Robert (Sarah) Schwartzkopf of Columbus and her grandchildren Samual Schwartzkopf of Hawaii, and Mary (Matt Belcher) Marr and Hallie Schwartzkopf of Columbus. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St Peter’s Lutheran Church Foundation, Columbus, IN.
