Jeannette Irene (Dovel) Lucas

Jeannette Irene Dovel Lucas, of Shenandoah, 89, passed away on May 26, 2019, at Life Care Center in New Market. Jeannette was born on July 19, 1929 in Stanley and was the daughter of the late Ernest K. and Cora Florence Lowery Dovel. She attended Stanley High School and worked at Rockingham Poultry at Alma prior to retirement. On March 1, 1947 she married Clinton O. Lucas, Sr., who preceded her in death on July 8, 1979. She is survived by five children, Faye E. Owens, Clinton O. Lucas, Jr. (Susan), Robert F. Lucas (Annie), Joyce G. Austin (Andy), and Ernest L. Lucas (Sue) all of Shenandoah; 14 grandchildren, Michael and Rob Owens, Kevin Lam, Craig Lucas, Monica Brewer, Angela and Scott Lucas, Andrea Wheeler, Laura Turner, Little Ernie and Eric Lucas, Michelle Mines, Wendy Williams, and Karen Thompson; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, at the Church of the Valley in Shenandoah on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am, Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the church with Pastor Alfred Comer officiating. Burial will follow at Leake’s Chapel Cemetery, near Stanley.
