Richard E. Lauer, 80, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at his home. Born April 19, 1940 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Edward and Clara (Rietdorf) Lauer. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army for over four years. A trade school graduate of General Electric, he was a mechanical engineer with General Electric and later with Franklin Electric, from which he retired. He also founded his woodworking shop, The House of Pine, in Fort Wayne. He is survived by his daughters, Lorie (Timothy) Hermesdorf of Aurora, Ill., and Kimberly Hanna of Fort Wayne; son, Edward (Karen) Lauer of Bluffton, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Kathy) Lauer of Indianapolis, Ind.; first wife, Mary Louise (Still) Lauer of Fort Wayne; second wife, Ruth of Fort Wayne; daughter-in-law, Martha Lauer of Fort Wayne; and brother-in-law, John Ort of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Lauer; and sister, Barbara Ort. Reception will be at noon on Friday, August 7, 2020 at D.O.
