Obituary of Jerome Francis Zajac
Dr. Jerry F. Zajac, D.C., D.N.–or as many know him, The Z-Man, Dr. Z., or Jer–entered the Kingdom of Heaven Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at age 67. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan Zajac; his six darling children: The RAZ-ma-tazz, Sweetheart Sarah, Zachy, Natey, Peanut, and Pikachu, (Rachel Zajac, Sarah Zajac, Zach Zajac, Nathan Zajac, Megan Salmon, and Mikey Zajac); his two sisters: Auntie Carolyn and Tessy, (Carolyn Nordoff and Theresa Skurka); and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Francis and Mildred Zajac, and brother, James “Jimmy” Zajac. The Z-Man was born May 27, 1953 in East Chicago, IN. He is a 1971 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in Hammond, IN. In 1976 he completed his Bricklayer Apprenticeship with Local Union Number 6 of Indiana and went on to earn his Journeyman’s card. He joined the Hammond Fire Department in 1978 and served as a Firefighter for five years and an EMT for fifteen years. He retired in 1998 with the rank of Firefighter First Class. During his time on the fire department he enrolled in Chicago National College of Naprapathy, and in 1988 at age 35 became a Doctor of Naprapathy. He continued his education at National College of Chiropractic, becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic after passing his board exam as a new father in early 1991 – this guy has done it all. He opened his practice, Chiropractic Healthcare Plus, in Highland, IN, and after a few years he moved office locations and changed the name of the practice to Advantage Chiropractic, to be at the top of the phone book, of course 😊. He married on April 21,1990, and together with his wife raised their six darlings whom he loves endlessly. Jerry is passionate about learning and working hard, being outside on glorious sunshine days, reading all holistic healthcare literature at least twice, sharing that holistic healthcare wisdom with his family, friends, and patients, and bird watching cardinals, robins, blue jays, and “lovey doveys.” He loves to hunt and fish (catching many “Willow Slough slabbers,” as he calls them), camp outdoors, take walks, and hike at the Indiana Dunes. He is kind, affectionate, loving, energetic, and a goof who finds purpose in helping others. Most of all, Jerry loved God. He spent every morning in scripture, reading and praying. The Kingdom of the Lord is now a healthier and funnier place.
