Passed away in Alexandria, Virginia. Beloved wife for 60 years of Edward James Stanton, Sr. (passed February, 2008); mother of Edward and Suzanne; sisters Elizabeth Lucas and Jean Davis. Loving daughter of Elizabeth and George Weyels. Joann was born in Clairton, Pennsylvania. During World War II, she trained as a Nurse at Allegheny General Hospital and Homestead Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Attended Ryder University in Trenton, New Jersey, where she met her loving husband. Joann was proud of her American heritage, on her mother's side, dating from 1723 Virginia and being eligible to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Extensive travels spanned the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Edward and Joann lived for twelve years in Turkey pioneering support of Turkish economic/social development in the 1960s and 1970s. She had an avid lifelong interest in archeology, history and anthropology. Joann also had a natural flair for interior design and fashion. Her lifetime spiritual faith, dedication to family, and strength throughout positive/difficult times was an inspiration to all that were blessed to have known her. Viewing, February 3, 2019, from 3:00 - 4:00 PM, at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Funeral Mass, starting 10:30 AM, February 5, 2019, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, Virginia, followed with resting ceremonies at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road (Route 619), Joplin Road Triangle, Virginia, with her husband
