Karin Victoria Christian of the Fort Hunt area of Alexandria, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2024, at Fairfax Hospital. Karin lived most of her life in Fort Hunt, staying close to her parents and her sister’s family. She and her loving partner and best friend of twelve years, Garry Watkins, lived in Fort Hunt with their beloved Dachshunds, Sparky and Scooby. She enjoyed time at the Delaware beaches, where she and Garry planned to retire. Karin was kind, generous, patient, and caring. She was well known for her warm smile and great conversation. She loved all animals. Over the years, she rescued several shelter dogs and dogs left behind when their owners passed. She enjoyed long walks with Garry and their Dachshunds, and then watching TV late into the night. Karin loved and was very close to her sister Melanie and brother-in-law Ken, nephew Will, and nieces Isabelle and Kate. She was a hands-on Aunt, who loved participating in their life events large and small. Karin was like a second mother to Will, Isabelle, and Kate, and she was a regular and important presence in their lives. After meeting her soulmate Garry in 2012, she warmly welcomed his family into her life. She loved spending time with his parents and kids and enjoyed his mother’s home cooked meals. After the birth of Beck, Garry’s grandson, she took great joy in her new and exciting role of grandmother. Karin was the center of family events, the kin-keeper. She took great joy in planning and hosting gatherings and holidays with family and friends. Karin was born June 16, 1966, in Heidelberg, Germany to proud parents Richard S. Christian, II, and Julita Christa Christian, stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. Karin graduated from Fort Hunt High School, University of Virginia, and Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. She was an attorney for the federal government for nearly thirty years, most of that time with the Department of Transportation. Karin was loved by many people, and will be greatly missed by her partner Garry Watkins, her sister Melanie Hendricks and brother-in-law Ken, nephew William, nieces Isabelle and Kate, cousins in New Jersey, relatives in Germany, Garry’s family, and her many friends. Karin was pre-deceased by her parents, LTC Richard S. Christian, II (Ret) and Julita C. Christian, and her brother Rick Christian. Services will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, 12 PM to 3 PM, at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA, where a Celebration of Life will occur at 2 PM.
