Margaret (Peggy) G. Abshire Passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011 in Burlington, NC following two strokes.
Mrs. Abshire was born September 5, 1922 in New York City. She was a graduate of Choate/Rosemary Hall. Her early career included a position as a clerk at the FBI. Later, she worked for the Recreation Department of the City of Alexandria, and was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Abshire married Courtland H. Grimm of Alexandria, VA in 1945 and lived on South Royal Street for many years. After Mr. Grimm’s death in 1975, Mrs. Abshire married John Patten Abshire in 1981, who died in 1997. She is survived by her only son, Courtland H. Grimm, Jr. of Annandale, VA, her two grandsons, Courtland David Grimm of Burlington, NC and Edward Blake Grimm of Alexandria, VA and her great-grandson, Courtland Jacob Grimm of Burlington, NC. Her immediate family also includes daughter-in-law Jane S. Grimm of Annandale, VA and her eldest grandson’s wife, Rev. Stacey L. Grimm of Burlington, NC. Visitation will be Sunday July 17 from 5-7 PM at Demaine Funeral Home Alexandria, VA. A funeral service will be Monday, July 18 at 10 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with burial to follow in Bethel Cemetery Alexandria, where she will rest between her husbands.
In consideration of the exemplary care Mrs. Abshire received in her last days and in acknowledgement of the happiness she experienced since 2006 while living at The Village at Brookwood, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to The Village at Brookwood Scholarship Fund in her name, 1860 Brookwood Avenue, Burlington, NC 27215.
