Robert Lee Wesemann passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the VA Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. His funeral will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia on August 22nd, 2019. Robert was born on May 2, 1937 in Kinder, Louisiana, to Walter and Viola (Westerhold) Wesemann. He was baptised in the Lutheran faith and was later confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender, Nebraska. After rice farming in Louisiana for eight years, the family moved back to Nebraska, and eventually, in 1949, to the family farm north of Wisner. Robert attended Cuming County Rural School District #67 and graduated from Wisner High School in 1955. Robert worked for Peter Kiewit Corporation in Greenland before joining the Army and serving in Korea and in Vietnam for two tours of duty. While serving in Vietnam, he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. After leaving the Army, his work as an oil rig mechanic took him and his family to such exotic locales as Iran, Singapore, and Malaysia before the family returned to the States and settled in New Orleans. He later resided in Ft. McCoy, Florida, prior to moving to Arlington, Virginia, in 2017. Robert loved to fish, go on road trips, and spend time talking with his grandchildren. He appreciated a good steak meal. Survivors include his ex-wife Yen Wesemann of Arlington, VA; daughter Suzee Wesemann/Pope and husband Jeb of Arlington, VA; three grandchildren: Kelsey Thibodeaux, Lindsey Thibodeaux of New Orleans, LA, and George Jackson Pope of Arlington, VA; siblings: Arnold Wesemann of Bellevue, NE, Edward and Shannah Wesemann of Salt Lake City, UT, and Marian and Rex Hoffman of Henderson, IA; and many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of him. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother Henry Wesemann, sister-in-law Kimiko Wesemann, and daughter Yvon May Thibodeaux.
