Murphy Funeral Homes

Sharon T G Jolly died peacefully at home in Arlington, Virginia on January 29, 2023, with her family at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Nothera Goyne of Chester, Virginia. Born in Richmond and raised in Chester, Virginia, the second of three children, Sharon grew up alongside brothers Dick (Kathy) and Mark (Nancy). After receiving a BA from East Carolina University in 1971 and a master’s from St. Louis University in 1973, she went on to become a Speech Pathologist. She married Bruce Jolly in August 1972 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends in 2022. Her daughters Lauren (Jefferson) and Adriane (Todd) were her pride, and Adriane’s son Joshua, her joy. Sharon will be remembered for her energy, good humor, and compassion. For many years she was an active and dedicated member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, serving on the Vestry and co-chairing the Altar Guild. Whether volunteering on the Board of Elections, as her daughters’ Girl Scout Leader or campaigning to improve the quality of the local stream, her willingness to help others never wavered. In the kindness she showed to friends and family, Sharon will remain an inspiration. Always grateful to her community, her family, her childhood and church friends, ‘the pearls’, and her book group, Sharon was surrounded with love during her first and second battle with cancer. Her family would like to thank all who provided her with such incredible support. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11th, 2023 at St. Peter’s Church in Arlington, with a reception to follow. A private interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4250 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207.
