Obituary of Homer Alvin "Doc" Trisler
Homer Alvin “Doc” Trisler, age 94, of Bloomington, died Saturday at I.U. Health; Bloomington. Born July 12, 1918 in Bloomington, he was the son of Homer and Fanny Elizabeth (Alexander) Trisler. He attended Bloomington Schools and served in the CCC camp. He retired from RCA in 1981 after 40 years of service. He was a member of McDoel Baptist Church where over 50 years he served as a trustee, deacon and with many committees in the church. He was also a member of the Monroe County Historical and Genealogical Society and the Jessamine County, Kentucky Historical Society. He loved Indiana University and the university athletics, especially football and basketball where he served as an usher and guard at football and basketball games for more than 35 years. He was named Honorary Captain of the I.U. Basketball team for the game against Wisconsin on February 25, 2010 as well as honored for his long service with the football team at the game against Iowa in 2011. He is survived by two daughters, Judith Kaye Trisler, of Bloomington and Constance Shotts, of Monroe, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Trisler; two grandchildren, Chantelle Petchul and her husband, Martin, of Matthews, North Carolina and Alex Trisler, of Bloomington; one great-granddaughter, Shannan Petchul, of Matthews, North Carolina; two sisters, Mildred Batchelor, of Arden, North Carolina and Lee (Warren) Patterson, of Newburgh, New York; one niece, Ramona (Jim) Pound, of Wimauma, Florida as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Bonita Louise “Bonnie” Trisler, whom he married on Sept.5, 1939 in Bloomington. Bonnie died on June 12, 2011. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Eileen (Trisler) Kern and Waneta Inez (Trisler) Houston;brother, Wayne Everett and half-sister, Mary Alice “Hazel” (Trisler) Baugh. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 12 Noon at McDoel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 10 A.M.to 12 Noon at the church. Memorial contributions can be given to the McDoel Baptist Church; 1008 S. Rogers St; Bloomington, IN 47403.
