Donald J. Stiemann, age 90, passed peacefully on February 7, 2021, with his wife of 70 years, Phyllis, by his side during his final days as she was throughout his two plus years spent in Hickory Hall, the Hoosier Village Memory Center. Born March 16, 1930, to Tony and Mildred Stiemann, in Streator, Illinois, Don attended Marmion Academy in Aurora, Illinois. He later graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. Don went on to a career in the credit industry. After college graduation Don and Phyllis spent their early years in Streator. Career opportunities took them to Wheaton, Illinois and later to Indianapolis. Don retired after serving as the General Manager of his beloved Elks Lodge located at Twin Lakes in Indianapolis. During their retirement Don and Phyllis spent their winters in Naples, Florida where they enjoyed playing golf and bocce ball with their many Florida friends. Aside from golf and sports, especially football, Don’s passion was his membership in the Fraternal Order of the Elks. Many of their fondest memories are of their times spent travelling and enjoying time spent with their many lifelong Elks Club friends. Don, who didn’t know a stranger and was an all-around “good guy”, will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him during his life well lived. Don is survived by his wife Phyllis, his two sons, Terry (Debbie), Grand Rapids, Michigan and Dan (Anita), French Lick, Indiana and his six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, any of whom can share many endearing and often times hilarious memories of Grandpa. Don will be interred next to his parents and two infant daughters in Streator, Illinois at the St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
