Obituary of David L. Smith
David L. Smith, 62, of Columbus died 9:55 a.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018, peacefully at his home after a 5 year battle with congestive heart failure and Afib. David was born in Columbus April 29, 1955, the son of Marion D. and Oneita Brewer Smith. He married Cheryl Buckley October 25, 1975 in Columbus. He worked for Cummins Engine Company 31 years and was self-employed, operating Smith Custom Woodworking and Smith Winery. He was a member of Columbus Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He played guitar and formerly gave lesson at Tom Pickett’s Music Center. David is survived by his wife, Cheryl Smith of Columbus; son, Craig (Elyse) Smith of Columbus; daughter, Tiffany (Michael) Cole of Anderson, IN; grandson, Nehemiah Smith of Columbus; sisters, Judith Smith of Los Angeles, CA and Mikki (David) Bilton of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Stephen (Karen) Smith of Columbus; 28 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Smith. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday 2:00 p.m. at Columbus Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Mike Sample officiating. Visitation will be from Noon to service time at the Kingdom Hall 545 N. National Road Columbus, IN. Private inurnment will be in Garland Brook Cemetery at a later date.
