Elsie Mae Bruning
September 23, 1923 – January 1, 2011
Elsie Mae Tormoehlen Bruning, 87, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., formerly of Columbus, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Alexian Village Health Care Center.
Mrs. Bruning was a homemaker and had been employed by the former Bruning’s Specialty Shop, a retail store in downtown Columbus owned and operated by the Bruning family for 87 years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Lutheran Lake Resort Association.
She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street with Pastor Mark R. Teike officiating. Calling will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Born in Seymour Sept. 23, 1923, Mrs. Bruning was the daughter of Edward and Anna Spray Tormoehlen. She married Max Bruning May 14, 1950, in Seymour. He preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1998.
Mrs. Bruning is survived by a daughter, Beth Gonzenbach of Signal Mountain; sons, Bill Bruning of Columbus, Bob (Tammi) Bruning of Forest City, NC, Brian (Elizabeth) Bruning of Carmel, IN, and Brad (Donna) Bruning of Camby, IN; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Irma (Robert) Demske and Bernice Kasting, all of Seymour.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Thomas Bruning; and 10 brothers and sisters.

I am so sorry to hear of Elsie's passing. U all R in my payers. Dottie & I were great friends & traveled to Michigan & Montana to visit w/some of the family. Elsie, Dottie, Gerry & I also went to Hawaii. I also used to go out to Lutheran Lake w/Dottie on Sundays and holidays & had been adopted by the family since I was an only child. What a great family!

WE SEND OUR SINCERE SYMPATHY OF AUNT ELSIE; WHAT A SAD TIME IT IS FOR EVERYONE. JOHN AND I HAVE MANY HAPPY MEMORIES OF FAMILY AND FUN TIMES IN SEYMOUR AND COLUMBUS.
THINKING OF EVERYONE ALL THROUGH YOUR TRIALS.. WE REALLY MISS REVEREND (DAD) AND ARDIS (MOM) TORMOEHLEN. ARDIS DIED AT CHRISTMAS TIME ALSO AND HER FUNERAL WAS THE 26 OF DECEMBER FOUR YEARS AGO. OUR LOVE, JOHN AND CYNTHIA, JOHNNA CHRIS THORSON, PIPER AND BRIDGER AND TROY HOPE AND TUCKER TORMOEHLEN TOO.

To my cousins... I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of aunt elsie. I will forever remember her for her kindness and the best sence of humor of any classy Lady I can think of. To Beth,Bill,Bob,Brian, and Brad may god give you peace thru this difficult time. Elsie was blessed with 5 wonderful children that brought her much joy through her long life. She is in a better place now.WHAT A WONDERFUL Lady!!!!!!!!

Your mother was very special to us and left us with many memories of the times we all spent at Lutheran Lake and reviewing the old movies of us all growing up.
Our blessing are with each of you during this time of grief. We picture Elsie smiling and enjoying herself with God and Max.
