Obituary of Herbert "Whitie" Estes

Herbert H. ("Whitie") Estes, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Whitie was born on August 3, 1935 in Edmonton, Kentucky, the son of Fred C. and Annie Mae Estes. He married Mary Harden and together they had two children. She passed away in 1970. He then married Annie Mae England and together they had four children. She passed away in 2008. He worked at Golden Casting Foundry for 42 years, he was a volunteer fireman for 43 years, and was a mechanic his whole life. He also ran Estes Water Service for five years. After he retired from the Foundry, he worked for Crider's Towing as their mechanic. His family referred to him as a "jack of all trades". Whitie took care of and raised several family members and friends and never turned away anyone in need. He enjoyed Westerns, Wrestling, NASCAR, and grilling out. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and he loved his grandkids and great-grandkids. Survivors include his children, Freddia (Bob) Jandris, Mike Estes, Tereasa (Eric) Waggoner, Fay Estes; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jerline (Terry) Beavers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Annie Estes; his first wife, Mary Harden; his second wife, Annie England; his son, Ronnie Estes ("Tripod"); and his daughter, Robin Russell; his sisters, Florence Grider, Sylvia Robertson, Pearl Roberts, Lilly Estes; and a half brother, Jim Estes. A Funeral Service for Whitie will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with Rev. Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. A Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions in Whitie's name may be made to American Diabetes Association.
