Obituary of LaQueta Joy (Forducey) Thomasson

IN THE CARE OF

Myers-Reed Chapel

LaQueta Joy Forducey Thomasson was born on October 1, 1937 in Hollis Oklahoma to George Ivan and Edna Mae Forducey. She grew up in Hollis and later in Lawton Oklahoma. She was the oldest child of a local Saddle and Bootmaker who parlayed his skills and business acumen into a chain of retail western wear stores across southwest Oklahoma and Northern Texas. She was a member of the marching band and DECA in high school and attended college before meeting Dan King Thomasson who she would be married to for 38 years and was her life long best friend. She raised four children in Annandale, Virginia and was extremely active in the community and her children’s activities. LaQueta served as the first female high school booster president in the area, first female president for Braddock Road Boys Club, president of the local garden club, president of multiple PTA’s as her children grew, team manager for her children’s athletic teams, as well as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and mother for the many neighborhood kids who had two working parents. After her children were grown she worked in the Annandale United Methodist church volunteering as a wedding planner for couples who could not afford one. She loved a good joke, was always in good nature, was competitive, would fiercely defend and protect her family and friends and was strongly opinionated on matters of right, wrong, fairness and equality. More importantly, she would express her opinion to you, whether you liked hearing it or not. She moved to Columbus, Indiana two and a half years ago to be near family. While in Columbus she made many new friends with whom she enjoyed spending time with and relished the small town feel Columbus afforded over the hustle and bustle of the Washington DC area. She was preceded in death by Dan King Thomasson and survived by her children, Scot, Lisa, Sean and Patrick and 11 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastor Colin Cress officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh. Arrangements were made by Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street, Columbus, Indiana.
