IN THE CARE OF
Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens
Alejandro R. "Welo" Ayala, age 90, of East Chicago, passed peacefully on May 4, 2018 at Crown Point Christian Village with his loving family at his side.
Alejandro was born January 11, 1928 in Brownsville, TX to the late Jose and Julia (Rodriguez) Ayala. Also preceding him in death are his loving wife for over 60 years, Esperanza T. Ayala; grandson, Thaddeus L. Rodriguez Jr.; and a brother Manuel Ayala.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sylvia (Matthew) Galvan and Rosalinda Ayala; grandchildren, Christina (Mark) Hardgraves, Nicole Galvan, Justine Rodriguez, Cynthia Galvan, Matthew Galvan II, and John Alejandro Ayala; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Alejandro retired after 37 years of faithful service at Inland Steel as a bridge crane operator. He was the ultimate family man. A loving , kind, patient, wise, and understanding father and grandfather, and a calm disciplinarian. He taught these attributes to his children and grandchildren through example. Alejandro enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music and dancing. He was known to be a sharp dresser and not a hair out of place. Alejandro appreciated the art of conversation, there was no such thing as a simple conversation or quick visit. We will truly miss you Dad and Welo, and your calm way saying "everything is going to be OK". (oh, OK). The family would like to thank all the staff at Crown Point Christian Village and Harbor Light Hospice for their exceptional care.
