Obituary of Hal Lee Hester Jr.
Hal Lee Hester, age 90 of Florida, born March 7, 1931 in Elgin Illinois, He passed away peacefully at home in Hudson Florida on May 3, 2021. Hal is survived by his three sons, Craig Hester, Tim (Deborah) Hester, Steve (Danielle) Hester, one daughter Karen (Jack) Cain; six grandchildren, Ashley Sherwood, Ross and Matthew Cain, BreAnn, McKenna and Cole Hester and two great grandchildren, Charlotte Sherwood, and Eleanor Cain and a host of other relatives and friends. He's preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years Nancy D. Hester; parents, Hal Lee Sr. And Marguerite Hester; brother Bob Hester and sister Bette Sartori. Hal graduated from Hammond High School Class of 1949. He received his B.S. and Masters degree from IIT in Visual Graphics Design. Hal served in the US Army corps of engineers during the Korean War and then married the love of his life, Nancy in 1955. Hal worked 12 years in Chicago at the design firm CGY as Graphics Manager. Hal received many “Certificates of Excellence “ Awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, in recognition of the Fine craftsmanship in an outstanding example of package design. Hal created logos for well known companies such as Brunswick Corp., Johnson Motors, Maytag, Jockey Menswear, & Parker Pen and Pleasant View Dairy. Hal also was involved in the Munster Rotary foundation where he received the Paul Harris Fellow award, A symbol of Rotary’s commitment to world harmony. Hal helped initiate The iconic sculpture on Ridge Road, “Yesterday & Today for Tomorrow” Hal also built Munsters first Condominium project in 1972 on E. Jefferson St. He went on to be a Prominent builder of fine homes in Munster for 30 years. Hal was a true design inspiration and left his thumbprint on the Calumet Region and National Corporations. He loved photography, history of the Civil War, traveling and boating. He also inspired all who knew him to strive for their very best in everything they did. He will be truly missed! A memorial services for Hal will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery 8178 Cline Ave Crown Point, IN 46307.
