Dale Sanburn Gore

Dale Sanburn Gore of Culpeper, VA passed away on July 4, 2018. He was born in Logan, WV to John Sanburn and Weltha Walker Gore on April 29, 1924. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps at 17 in 1941 and served in the 4th Marine Airway on several islands in the South Pacific. He was discharged in Cherry Point, NC in 1945. He then served in the Pennsylvania and Delaware Marine Reserves for several years after WWII.
He was employed at E.I. DuPont in Wilmington, DE and was chosen as one of the first five employees to develop Silicon and Quartz fabrication for DuPont. He later worked for Allegheny Electric Chemical in Bradford, PA. In 1958, he married Ethel J. Burkhardt of Chalfont, PA in Wilmington DE. They moved to Culpeper, VA in 1960 to open the Western Auto Store on Culpeper St, and later the ACE Hardware at the same location. After he retired from retail sales, he drove a school bus for several years.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Free Masons, Shriners, and First Methodist Church in Culpeper. He was a member of the Kiwanis for 27 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, 5 sisters and his beloved “Essie” in May 2018. He is survived by daughter Debbie Robertson and husband Pat of Glendale, AZ, three grandchildren Justin, Stephanie and Jeremy, and two great-grandchildren.
He will be interred at 1:00 p.m., July 30, 2018 in Culpeper National Cemetery, alongside his wife of 60 years.
