Mary Crandall Patterson

Mary Crandall Patterson, 96, Culpeper, VA, passed away at UVA-Culpeper Hospital October 7, 2018. Mary was a resident of English Meadows Senior Living Community. Whenever asked to give her date of birth, she would say “3rd month, 7th day, 1922”. Mary was born in Richmond, VA to the late Frank and Pearl Crandall. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth W. Smith; brother, David Crandall; step-mother, Edna Crandall; first husband, William J. Smith, Jr; second husband, Lewis A. Patterson, Jr.; son-in-law, William D. Trout. Surviving Mary are a son, Gregory A. Smith (Doris); two daughters, Emily M. Trout; Valerie S. Myers (Curtis); daughter-in-law, Nancy R. Smith; grandchildren, Todd Smith (Marcie); Curt Myers; Tammy Kelly; Scott Smith (Cynthia); nine great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Spicer; sister-in-law, Patricia Crandall; and a niece, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2018 in the cemetery of Stevensburg Baptist Church, 19393 York Road, Stevensburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stevensburg Baptist Church, 19393 York Road, Stevensburg, VA 22741.
