Obituary of Stephen Gerald Hemmen
Stephen Gerald Hemmen, age 63, of Culpeper, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior May 11, 2022. Born in Nicosia, Cyprus May 12, 1958, he was adopted as an infant by parents Gerald and Thelma Hemmen. As a child, his family was stationed in various places around the world, ultimately settling in Culpeper. Stephen graduated high school in 1977 and began his thirty-eight year profession with VDOT. Steve’s proudest accomplishment was being a husband, father and grandfather; he loved his wife with his whole heart and would do anything to make her smile. He was the father of eleven children and grandfather of fifteen. A tireless provider, Steve worked multiple jobs for many years to make sure his family never went without; truly an unmatched work ethic. Steve enjoyed all types of sports; was an avid football and baseball fan; coaching little league teams in football, baseball and basketball. Other than sports, his favorite thing to do was go to church; he was saved by the loving grace of his Heavenly Father and he took his duty seriously to raise up his children to be followers of Christ. His favorite bible verse was John 3:3 which reads, “Jesus answered and said to him verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God”. As his family, our only comfort lies in the fact that he was born again and that he awaits us in the Kingdom of God. Steve is survived by his wife Linda, parents, Gerald and Thelma Hemmen; children Stephen Jr. (Kelly), Michael (Tammy), Cristy (Tyrone), Peggy (Rob), Pamela, Jaimie (Josh), Shelby, Rachel (Morad), Grace (Alex), Priscilla (Matt) and Joseph and his sister Theresa. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in the Culpeper Christian Fellowship Church, 15460 Bradford Rd., Culpeper, with Pastor Erick Kalenga officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery of New Life Baptist Church, 12302 Alum Springs Road, Culpeper. The family would like to invite all to join them for a time of food and fellowship back at Culpeper Christian Fellowship Church following the committal at the cemetery. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Josh Barker, Craig Detwiler, Alex Fincham, Joseph Hemmen, Stephen Hemmen, Jr. and Michael Johnson. Fond memories of Steve and condolences may be offered to the Hemmen family through www.clore-english.com. The Hemmen family has entrusted Clore-English Funeral Home with these arrangements.
