Obituary of Betty Laverne Whittinghill
WHITTINGHILL, Betty Laverne (née Sisk), age 89, of Evansville, passed away Saturday evening, November 21, 2020. She was born May 13, 1931, the eldest daughter of the late Otis Sisk and Lillian Sisk Shelton. She lived a full life as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and volunteer. She enjoyed camping, bluegrass and gospel music, and giving of her talents to community organizations. She was a multi-year recipient of volunteer recognition awards from both Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging (SWIRCA) and the Senior Health Insurance Information Program. Betty lived a life in accordance with her philosophy to “eat dessert first.” Her fun and adventurous spirit energized every gathering. The first to create games and lead spontaneous dancing and singing, she brought smiles to the hearts of all. Her faith as a Christian was unwavering. She embraced the power of daily prayer, and reminded loved ones in each correspondence, “God loves you, and I do too!” In her final note to family and friends, Betty proclaimed her faith perfectly: “When I die, I want everyone to be happy. My trip on the earth is finished. I have graduated to a place no words can possibly explain: Heaven.” Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, J. Neal Whittinghill, and her sister, Shirley Sinnett. She is survived by her two children, Christa Walther and Jeffrey Whittinghill (Cindy); four grandchildren, Rebecca Scheidler (Ryan), Leanna Meinhardt, Brian Whittinghill (Ruby), and Derek Whittinghill (Jessica); eight great-grandchildren, Katrina, Ainsley, Cole, Gabrielle, Ethan, Kolby, Caden, and Eli; one great-great-grandchild, Vanessa; niece, Cindy Reese; and nephew, Bruce Sinnett. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home - North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Larry Lewis, with burial following in Alexander Memorial Park. Visitation is from 1:00–4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29 and 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging (SWIRCA), in appreciation of Betty’s volunteerism and the joy SWIRCA brought to her later years.
