Obituary of Bettye Shersmith
Bettye Jane Shersmith, 91, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Heritage Center. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1938. Bettye worked as a secretary at Mead Johnson, Evansville Chrysler, Inland Oil Producers, and Mead Johnson Research. She thoroughly enjoyed playing her xylophone, traveling, playing bridge, and big band dancing. Bettye was active in the VFW Auxiliary, Eagles, Elks in Bradenton, FL, Turners Auxiliary, Friday Night Dance Club, and Coterie. She was very grateful for being a 13 year breast cancer survivor! The family would like to thank Dr. Aziz Mehrzad and staff, and the nurses, techs, and staff at Heritage Center for their concern and tender loving care of "Little Bitty Bettye". Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Addie Meyer; brother, Jim Meyer; husband, Ralph Shersmith (2006); grandson, Stephen Damron; and nephew, Jeff Meyer. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Damron (Gordon) of Evansville; step-daughters, Diane Hibbard (Paul) of Arlington Heights, IL, Lynn Basselman (Bob) of St. Joseph, MI, Joanne Shersmith of Carpentersville, IL, and Julie Victor (Ed) of Louisville, CO; grandson, Michael Damron of Newburgh; granddaughters, Claire and Sarah Victor of Louisville, CO; nieces, Candy Scott (Dave), Pam Sabo, Terry Meyer Pittman (Mike), Kathy Deig (Dennis); and nephew, David Crosley. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 8, 2013 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Father Ted Tempel with burial at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Center or Little Sisters of the Poor.
