Charles Deffendall
December 11, 1929 – May 15, 2014

Charles Vernon Deffendall, 84, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Deaconess VNA Plus Charlier Hospice Center. He was born December 11, 1929, in Evansville.
He served in the US Marine Corps for 13 years in the Easy Co. 2nd BN 5th Marines, including during the Korean War, and then in the Army National Guard for 13 years. He retired from Whirlpool after 26 years and was a member of Howell General Baptist Church. He was a life member of VFW Post 1114, the Marine Corps League International and The Chosen Few. He was instrumental in bringing the Korean War Memorial to the Riverfront.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brother.
He is survived by his wife , Mary Ann Deffendall; daughters, Mary Small (Ryder Baldwin) and Stephanie Conner (Rick); sisters, Betty Hayes and Carolyn Noel; brother, Bob Deffendall; grandsons, Logan, Austin and Trent Small and Ian Conner; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and close friend, Clarence Embry.
Friends may visit Sunday, May 18, 2014, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Howell General Baptist Church, 1520 Delmar Avenue. Entombment of Ashes will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Alexander Memorial Park, 2200 Mesker Park Drive.
